Projects We Have Done
Erected 50 "Highland Area" signs and 30 "Historic Site"
signs.
Worked with the Highland Restoration Association and the
City of Shreveport to provide 16 "Highland Historic
District" signs bordering the newly expanded Highland
Historic District.
Obtained new street lights throughout the Highland Area.
Place 39 "Shreveport Green litter receptacles throughout
the neighborhood.
Acquired and renovated houses at 105 E. Lister, 407
Washington and 621 Wichita for resale to homeowners
Special PSI-4 "neighborhood sensitive" zoning at I-49
and Kings Highway
Assisted Highland Restoration Association in the
rezoning of 22 Highland Area blocks to better reflect
current and anticipated land uses.
Placed "gateway" arches at Creswell and Kings Hwy and
Gilbert and Marshall.
Advocated Highland Ave. curb, curb sidewalk, catch basin
and lighting improvements.
Assisted in obtaining a $750,000 U.S. Department of
Justice "Weed and Seed" grant to reduce crime.
Placed historic marker at plaza at the northwest corner
of Highland and Marshall.
Initiated "Streetscape" landscaping project on Louisiana
Avenue (from Jordan to Stoner).
Co-sponsored "Louisiana Saturday Night Street Dance"
with Louisiana Avenue Merchants Association.
Negotiated with Wendy's, McDonald's, Texaco Xpress Lube,
Walgreen's, Brookshire's, Advanced Auto Parts and Family
Dollar to provide more aesthetically pleasing sites.
Sponsored a $500 home improvement contest, providing
more then 52 grants totaling $26,000 to homeowners.
Developed program whereby a sticker with a local contact
person's phone number is placed on the window of
businesses and institutions so local police have a
contact to call after business hours.
Publish quarterly newsletter, "Happenings" with a
circulation of over 3,000.
Produced 475 Shreveport Flags for distribution
throughout Shreveport neighborhoods.
Produced a promotional program that included a 30-second
television public service announcement and 10 billboards
that identified Highland as a "great neighborhood."
Cosponsored the Krewe of Highland Mardi Gras parade with
the Highland Restoration Association.
Acquired funding for "buffer" landscaping on the east
side of I-49 |
